Bangor to Caernarfon (10 miles)

It's been a bit of a break since we did the last walk, for various reasons. Resuming this today was along familiar paths, because this is close to home. In fact we've covered all of it before, some only in the reverse direction. It also means that we made a start on the volume 3 guide, which will take us round Llŷn.  The book starts the walk at Bangor Pier, and of course we've covered some of that, up to crossing the Menai Bridge for Anglesey, so we regarded today's walk as properly starting from the bridge where we had got back to after rounding the island.

We strayed a little off the path to see see the latest at Treborth Botanic Garden. There was tree-felling going on, but still a few changes to see. The path now passes through the National Trust's Glan Faenol land, very much along the shores of the Strait, and with three or four bird hides (or at least, walkers' rests) along the way. This is the short undeveloped stretch of the Menai Strait where the combination of Plas Newydd land in Anglesey and this estate, both now in National Trust hands, has preserved old woodlands down to the shore on both sides

It was close to high tide, here's the water rushing in at the water gate in the Faenol wall.

We stopped for lunch The Swellies in the marina at Y Felinheli (we have been before and know it) but got there still in time for the breakfast menu.

From Y Felinheli to Caernarfon the path largely follows the cycle track Lon Las Menai. Even though we knew where we were going today, we have been trying to look out for the Coast Path signs, and here got increasingly annoyed that once on the cycle path, they seem to assume they don't need to sign the path as well - and when, approaching Caernarfon, the path diverges from the cycle track, there's nothing to indicate that!

A dry and overcast day and nothing spectacular, but it got us going again.
